Focus on Automated Pallet Inspection

AKL-tec and VITRONIC presented themselves at a joint booth at the Pallet Symposium.

AKL-tec GmbH and VITRONIC Machine Vision GmbH are jointly addressing a key future topic in logistics: automated pallet inspection.

Rüdiger Elben, Managing Director of AKL-tec GmbH, and Carsten Astner, Sales Manager for Logistics Automation at VITRONIC, demonstrate how modern image processing systems and AI-supported analysis methods can help to reliably identify Class C pallets and remove them from circulation. These pallets often show significant signs of wear and tear—such as missing or broken boards or a missing European Pallet Association (EPAL) label—and thus pose a potential risk to process reliability. Automated detection enables objective assessment of pallet quality, increases process reliability in automated logistics systems, and at the same time contributes to greater efficiency along the entire supply chain.

The two companies also presented this technology and exchanged views during their participation in the Paletten Symposium 2025 in Hamburg, one of the industry's most important events for industry, trade, and logistics on the subject of pallets.
