Slotting Optimization
Slotting Optimization refers to the systematic optimization of how items are assigned storage locations within a warehouse. The goal is to place goods in such a way that distances are minimized, access times are reduced, and warehouse processes are made more efficient.
This optimization takes into account factors such as item frequency, dimensions, weight, turnover rate, and picking requirements. Using data analysis, warehouse management systems, and AI-supported methods, optimal storage locations are automatically determined and regularly adjusted. This increases picking performance, minimizes transport distances, and improves the utilization of existing warehouse capacity.
Practical example:
In an e-commerce fulfillment center, the warehouse management system analyzes order frequency and automatically places frequently requested items in storage areas that are particularly easy to access.
