Access control encompasses technical and organizational measures for managing which users, devices, or systems are permitted to access specific data, applications, and functions. It ensures that only authorized access is possible.

In digital logistics and automation environments, access control manages permissions for ERP, WMS, TMS, and plant control systems. Sensitive data and critical processes are protected through role-based models, user rights, and authentication procedures. Structured access control supports IT security, prevents unauthorized changes, and provides transparency regarding who can access which information or functions.

Practical example:

An employee in the DWS system has access only to the functions required for their job, while administrators have additional rights for configuration and maintenance.
