Laser scanner

A laser scanner is an optical measurement system used for the noncontact measurement of distances, contours, and surfaces. Using laser beams, it generates precise measurement data and enables the automatic measurement of objects in industrial and logistics applications.

In logistics, laser scanners are used for applications such as dimensional measurement, contour inspection, and DWS systems, among others. They capture the geometry of packages, pallets, or other loading units with high speed and accuracy. Depending on the technology, they use time-of-flight measurement, laser triangulation, or other optical methods. The data obtained supports automated processes, improves data quality, and enables reliable control of material flows.

Practical example:

In a shipping center, a laser scanner captures the contour and dimensions of a package as it moves so that the DWS system can use the data for shipping and freight billing.
