The shipping label is a tag affixed to goods, packages, or loading units that contains all information relevant to transportation and identification. It enables the unique identification of a shipment and supports automated logistics processes.

For example, a shipping label contains barcodes, recipient information, tracking numbers, weight specifications, and other transportation-related data. It is often generated automatically and applied to packages or pallets by labeling systems. In conjunction with ERP, WMS, and TMS systems, as well as identification technologies, it enables end-to-end shipment tracking and efficient management of shipping and handling processes.

Practical example:

After automatically measuring and weighing a package, the system generates the appropriate shipping label and automatically applies it before handing the package over to the shipping carrier.
