ULD stands for Unit Load Device and refers to standardized loading units specifically designed for the transport of air cargo. They are used to bundle individual shipments and transport them efficiently and safely in the cargo hold of aircraft.

ULDs are used as air cargo containers or aircraft pallets with securing nets and are adapted to the dimensions and load limits of specific aircraft types. By consolidating many individual items into a single loading unit, loading and unloading processes are accelerated, and available cargo space is utilized optimally. In air freight, standardized ULDs support the efficient planning, handling, and tracking of shipments.

Practical example:
Several measured and weighed packages are consolidated into a single ULD before being secured and loaded onto a cargo aircraft for transport.
