3D data
3D data is digital information that describes the spatial characteristics of an object or environment. It represents geometries, contours, dimensions, and positions in three dimensions and serves as the basis for measurement, analysis, and automation processes.
3D data is captured using sensors such as LiDAR systems, laser scanners, or 3D cameras and then digitally processed. In logistics, it enables the precise measurement of packages, pallets, and other loading units, as well as the automatic detection of shape and position information. This optimizes material flows and provides downstream systems with reliable master data.
Practical example:
In the goods receiving area, a DWS system automatically captures the 3D data of a pallet and transmits the dimensions to the warehouse management system.
